A special flight of the military transport aviation of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation took out of Port Sudan part of the employees of the Russian embassy, who were transferred to this city from Khartoum at the end of July, as well as Russian citizens and family members who applied for assistance in returning to their homeland. The Foreign Ministry explained that the decision was made due to high security risks in the context of ongoing clashes in Sudan.
The evacuation of citizens was facilitated by the Support Group of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
A difficult situation has also developed in Niger against the backdrop of a military mutiny and the capture of the elected president of the state. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova commented the prospect of evacuating Russians from Nigerrecalling that Russia does not have an embassy in Niger, and interaction with this state is carried out by the diplomatic mission of the Russian Federation in Mali.
At the same time, France, Italy, and Spain have already decided to evacuate their citizens from Niger.
