At the Pulkovo airport in St. Petersburg, customs officers detained a Nigerian citizen who tried to smuggle jewelry worth 2 million rubles. This was reported by the Federal Customs Service.

It is specified that the foreigner did not declare any decorations and decided to go to the plane through the “green” corridor. During the search, the Nigerian’s luggage was found to contain necklaces and a bracelet with inserts of diamonds and cubic zirkonia, the total value of which is over 2 million rubles.

The tourist said that his parents gave him jewelry, but he did not know that they needed to be declared.

The actions of the Nigerian fall under Article 226.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Smuggling of strategically important goods and resources.” Now he faces up to 7 years in prison, as well as a fine of up to a million rubles.
