Why do airplane windows have tiny holes? Flight attendant Henny Lim has finally answered the burning question that interests almost every passenger.

A professional flight attendant has revealed the real reason why plane windows all have tiny holes in them. Hennie Lim, a flight attendant with Philippine airline Cebu Pacific, shared that passengers often ask about “mysterious” holes and whether there is a hidden reason for them.

According to the Daily Mail, she said that these holes are also called “bleeding holes” and are necessary for safety.

“The tiny hole helps balance the pressure difference between the cabin and outside air,” Henney explains in the video.

Airplane windows are made of three layers of glass and acrylic, making them insulated and durable. The holes create controlled air flow and reduce the load on windows from air pressure, writes the Daily Mail.

Henny also talked about another purpose, which is to prevent glass from allowing moisture to pass through.

“The holes wick away moisture and prevent frost or condensation from blocking your view,” she explained.

This is important so that passengers can see their surroundings in the event of an emergency landing or similar emergency.

The hole allows dry air to pass between the outer, middle and inner layers, keeping the window clean.

Henney previously revealed why staff buckle themselves into their jump seats before proceeding to sit with their arms tucked under them ahead of planes landing.

“Have you ever wondered why flight attendants sit like that during takeoff and landing?” – the video began, along with a shot of the flight attendant taking a “landing” pose in her jump seat.

“This is called the restraint position,” she said. “This position involves wearing the seat belt securely, sitting upright, sitting on your hands – arms up, thumbs tucked – arms relaxed and feet flat on the floor. The goal is to hold the body in a rigid posture so that in case of any impact due to an unplanned emergency, the body suffers less.”

The flight attendant added: “This limits body movement so there is less chance of injury in the event of a collision.
