A substance with an anabolic effect was found in a sample of Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva, who was disqualified a few days ago for doping, reports the Finnish publication Yle.
In addition to trimetazidine, for which the athlete was disqualified, hypoxene and L-carnitine were found in her doping test; they are not included in the list of prohibited drugs and were indicated by Valieva in the control form. According to the source, another substance was found in the sample; it has an anabolic effect and is currently not prohibited by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), but the organization is considering banning it.
Ecdysterone is included in the WADA monitoring program, which includes substances that may be banned in the near future. This is the only anabolic among the other drugs presented on the list.
On January 29, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) decided to disqualify Kamila Valieva for four years, starting December 25, 2021. On this day, the skater passed a positive doping test for trimetazidine. The court ruled that Kamila Valieva will be deprived of all competitive results and awards achieved in the period from December 25, 2021. Based on this decision, the Russian team deprived gold medals at the 2018 Beijing Olympics in team figure skating competitions.
Kamila Valieva does not admit her guilt. Her defense claims that trimetazidine was used by the athlete’s grandfather after heart surgery. Valieva herself believes that the drug entered her body due to the fact that she drank from the same mug as her grandfather.
