Introduced to the State Duma bill, expanding the list of crimes for which Russians can be deprived of citizenship. The document proposes to add to crimes of minor and medium gravity the commission of any intentional grave or especially grave crime. In particular, we are talking about articles about discrediting the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, non-compliance with the law on foreign agents, evasion of military service, etc.
The explanatory note to the document provides statistics on the migration situation for 2022. According to it, more than 691 thousand foreigners received Russian citizenship. The introduction of the bill is justified by the increase in crime, mainly among immigrants from the countries of Central Asia and the Caucasus. The bill was introduced by a group of deputies led by Alexei Zhuravlev (LDPR).
“The number of crimes against the order of government has sharply increased in the country, which, according to A. I. Bastrykin, “clearly indicates non-acceptance and opposition to the existing authorities,” the note says.
The bill itself refers to amendments to Article 24 of the Federal Law “On Citizenship of the Russian Federation.” The authors of the initiative propose to include in the grounds for deprivation of citizenship the commission of intentionally grave or especially grave crimes, which are provided for in the articles:
