Edition URA.RU with reference to the press service of the Chelyabinsk Regional Children’s Clinical Hospital (CHODKB) reports that neurosurgeons of the medical institution removed a 12-centimeter cyst with parasite larvae from the brain of a 12-year-old child.
According to the statement of the head of the neurosurgery department of the Chechen Children’s Clinical Hospital, German Safronov, the boy suffered from headaches, his face was distorted and weakness appeared in his limbs. Safronov pointed out that at appointments in paid clinics the child could not be diagnosed, and when the boy came to him, the doctor was very surprised to see the MRI images. According to the specialist, the child had echinococcosis of the brain, the number of cysts could not be counted, and the volume of the node was about 12 centimeters.
It is noted that neurosurgeons operated on the boy, and the formation was completely removed. At the same time, the press service emphasized that the specialists did not allow the opening of any of the cyst vesicles, otherwise the entire brain could have been infested with larvae. Safronov added that this case of echinococcosis was only the second in his practice, and the last one took place 30 years ago.
