A criminal case was opened because of the inscriptions on the walls of the Vladivostok fortress

Investigative bodies of the Investigative Committee of the Investigative Committee for Primorye opened a criminal case after the walls of the Pospelovskaya battery of the Vladivostok fortress were painted with paint from an aerosol can.

“During the monitoring of social networks, a publication was identified where, on video footage, an unknown man writes an inscription with a dye from an aerosol can on the monument “Pospelovskaya Battery” in the city of Vladivostok,”— it says in the investigative report.

A criminal case was initiated on the grounds of a crime under Part 1 of Art. 243.4 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (damage to monuments, steles, obelisks, other memorial structures or objects perpetuating the memory of those who died defending the Fatherland or its interests or dedicated to the days of military glory of Russia). The maximum penalty under this article is up to three years in prison.

It is specified that investigators inspected the scene and seized an empty aerosol can. Later, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation for Vladivostok reportedthat “as a result of a complex of operational search activities, the identity of the suspects was established.” A young man and a girl, residents of the capital of Primorye, were detained and investigations are underway.

According to videos from the crime scene, the walls of the battery are painted with declarations of love like “Misha + Dasha = love.”

Vladivostok fortress is a complex of long-term defensive structures that were built at the end of the 19th – beginning of the 20th centuries in Vladivostok and its environs. The fortress included “more than 800 fortification and infrastructure facilities built over almost 30 years of construction, with a total cost of 54 million gold rubles, 150 kilometers of defense line and 9845 meters of underground galleries.”
