A criminal case was opened against former State Duma deputy Dmitry Gudkov (recognized as a foreign agent) under Part 2 of Art. 207.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (public dissemination of false information about the armed forces of the Russian Federation). Dmitry Gudkov himself announced this by publishing on Telegram a copy of the resolution of the senior investigator of the Khoroshevsky Investigation Department on accepting the case for proceedings.
According to a document dated October 17, the reason for initiating a criminal case against Dmitry Gudkov was quotes from a video published on his YouTube channel in April 2022. The investigation claims that the video contains “false information about the massacres of civilians in Bucha, Irpen and Borodyanka.”
“Gudkov D.G. publicly disseminated, under the guise of reliable messages, deliberately false information containing data on the use of the armed forces of the Russian Federation. The civilian population of Ukraine has not been and is not the target of actions for the armed forces of the Russian Federation,” the resolution says. Maximum punishment under Part 2 of Art. 207.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation – ten years in prison.
