A criminal case into an accident involving the famous cosmonaut, Hero of Russia Oleg Artemyev, was opened by law enforcement agencies – almost a year after the accident itself. Such a long period of pre-investigation check is associated with purely bureaucratic difficulties. In addition to numerous regalia, the space conqueror is a deputy of the Moscow City Duma, and the initiation of cases against people of this status requires the sanction of a security official of the highest level.
As MK reported at the time, the 63-year-old project manager of the Star City Center project, Anatoly Uronov, fell under the wheels of a Mitsubishi Pajero driven by Artemyev. This happened on the evening of October 17, 2022. A man was crossing the road at a pedestrian crossing in the village of Sverdlovsky near Moscow. 52-year-old Oleg Artemyev was driving from Losino-Petrovsky to his home in Korolev and ran over a pedestrian. After the emergency, he himself called an ambulance.
Over the past months, numerous examinations have been carried out at once: auto technical, forensic. Investigators changed several times, at first the Ministry of Internal Affairs dealt with the case, then it transferred to the Investigative Committee. It is known that negotiations took place several times between the participants in the accident, but no pre-trial agreements, including material ones, were reached. The maximum punishment that Artemyev may face under Article 264 of the Criminal Code is up to two years in prison.
The victim of the accident recently returned to work. However, it will no longer be possible to fully restore health after numerous injuries: the man received numerous fractures, lay in a coma for several days, and in total spent about six months in a hospital bed. He will have several more operations and sanatorium treatment.
