A court in Orenburg arrested the leadership of the LGBT club "Pose" in a case of extremism

The art director and administrator of the Pose club in Orenburg were taken into custody. They are charged with organizing the activities of an extremist organization (Part 1 of Article 282.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).

“The court granted the investigator’s requests and decided to choose a preventive measure in the form of detention in relation to the accused for a period of 1 month 28 days until May 18, 2024,” says the message on the website Central District Court.

Regarding the club management was initiated a criminal case about participation in extremist activities (Part 1 of Article 282.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). The head of the Safe Internet League, Ekaterina Mizulina, said that such a case was brought in Russia for the first time after the Supreme Court recognized the “international LGBT movement” as extremist and prohibited. According to Ms. Mizulina, local activists drew attention to the club’s activities. It also turned out that the club sold alcohol illegally.

Those involved in the criminal case face up to 12 years in prison. November 30, 2023 Supreme Court of Russia banned activities of the formally non-existent “International LGBT Social Movement” and recognized it as extremist. In March 2024, the Ministry of Justice included the movement in the list of prohibited and liquidated organizations.
