A court in Moscow deprived former Channel One editor Ovsyannikov of parental rights

The Shcherbinsky Court of Moscow upheld the claim of RT employee Igor Ovsyannikov for deprivation of parental rights against his ex-wife, ex-editor of Channel One Marina Ovsyannikova, it follows from card indexes court. Currently, Mrs. Ovsyannikova lives in France with her 13-year-old daughter; her 17-year-old son remains with his father in Russia.
Marina Ovsyannikova commented on the situation in Telegram channel, saying that the court’s decision was political in nature. Her lawyer Dmitry Zakhvatov said RBCthat the defense does not plan to challenge the court’s decision, since it “will not affect” the fate of Maria Ovsyannikova and her daughter, who currently have political asylum in France.
“There is no scenario under which they could be extradited to Russia, even by decision of a Russian court,” said Dmitry Zakhvatov.
Igor Ovsyannikov filed a lawsuit against his wife in August 2022. In October 2022, the journalist’s rights were limited by a decision of the Cheryomushkinsky Court of Moscow. On October 4, 2023, the Basmanny Court of Moscow sentenced her to eight and a half years in a general regime colony for disseminating deliberately false information about the Russian army. During the investigation, she was placed under house arrest, from which she escaped and went to France. The journalist has been put on the international wanted list.
