Kurgan Region Governor Vadim Shumkov warned that more than 1.3 billion cubic meters of water flows along the Tobol River, which is twice as much as in 1994, when there was a significant increase in water levels. He called on residents of dangerous areas to evacuate in advance, as leaving may soon become impossible due to flooded roads.

It is predicted that from April 15 to 18, the water level in the Tobol River near Kurgan and downstream will continue to rise, which will lead to flooding of coastal areas, floodplain lakes, channels and oxbow lakes. In connection with this situation, a regional emergency has been declared in the Kurgan region, and it is expected that 62 settlements, 4,300 houses, 5,550 household plots, and 600 summer cottages may be flooded. According to the latest data as of April 15, 5,309 residential buildings and 571 household plots in five municipal districts remain flooded, and more than 7.1 thousand residents were evacuated due to flooding.
