A chess player from Yamal Goryachkina will play a tie-break in the fight for victory at the World Cup

On August 20, Baku hosted the second game of the World Chess Cup, in which Aleksandra Goryachkina from the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug and Nurgyul Salimova from Bulgaria fought for victory. The game ended in a draw, like the first one, according to the Russian Chess Federation.
“In the second game of the final match between Alexandra Goryachkina and Nurgyul Salimova, the Bulgarian athlete, playing with White, got a big advantage in the middle game, but she couldn’t convert it and got into a strong time trouble. With stubborn defense, the Russian woman managed to equalize and even seize the initiative. As a result, Salimova had to defend the “rook against rook and knight” ending, and she coped with this task: a draw followed on the 118th move, ”the message says.
Since the first batch also ended in a draw, the winner of the World Cup will be determined in a tie-break. A mini-match with a shortened time control starts on August 21 at 14:00 Moscow time.
By the way, the third place at the World Chess Cup was taken by the Ukrainian athlete Anna Muzychuk, having beaten the Chinese woman Tan Zhongyi.
Recall that Ukrainian could become rival of the Yamal chess player Goryachkina, but did not make it to the final, losing Salimova.
