A case was opened in St. Petersburg after an outbreak of intestinal infection at school

Based on the fact that children were hospitalized due to an acute intestinal infection at a school in St. Petersburg, a case was opened under Part 1 of Article 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (provision of services that do not meet consumer safety requirements), reported City State Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation. Rospotrebnadzor said that 17 cases of poisoning were identified, 13 people were hospitalized.

The press release from the Investigative Committee states that “in one of the schools in St. Petersburg, specialists have registered cases of acute intestinal infection among staff and students”; other details are not provided there. The case was opened following a pre-investigation check that began yesterday, September 7.

By data Rospotrebnadzor, the incident occurred at school No. 608 named after Hero of the Soviet Union Zina Portnova. JSC “Kirovsky Food Plant” is responsible for school meals. On September 7 and 8, students were transferred to distance learning, and all school classes were canceled. Rospotrebnadzor is also conducting a sanitary and epidemiological investigation.
