The Tula Cartridge Plant has patented a cartridge with increased penetration for small arms, TASS reported with reference to the description of the patent. The description says that the cartridge is intended, among other things, for the Kalashnikov assault rifle.

According to the document, the cartridge length is from 55 to 63 mm, the cartridge case is bottle-shaped, and the bullet with an armor-piercing core has an elongated streamlined head. The cartridge is designed to destroy lightly armored vehicles and manpower at long distances.

The description of the patent notes that the preferred caliber of such a cartridge is 6.02 mm. “However, it may turn out that the caliber of the cartridge will change in one direction or another,” the developers said, noting that even if the caliber changes, the geometric parameters of the ammunition will remain within the same limits.

A set of experiments was carried out with a new type of ammunition. In particular, it was tested at a firing range of 300 meters – at this distance the cartridge penetrated 8-mm and 10-mm plates of A-3 steel (such steel is used for the manufacture of hulls of light armored vehicles).
