The LDPR is going to submit to the State Duma a draft law on the abolition of liability under the Criminal Code of Ukraine for convicts from the DPR, LPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions. The deputies propose to cancel the punishment for those convicted under those articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine that have no composition in the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, TASS reports citing a party document.
“If the act, on which the pre-trial investigation was carried out before September 30, 2022, is not a crime under the criminal legislation of the Russian Federation, and also in the absence of grounds for initiating a criminal case, a decision is made to refuse to initiate a criminal case in accordance with Article 148 of the Code of Criminal Procedure Russian Federation,” the document says.
As TASS notes, if the offense is indicated in the Criminal Code of both countries, in Russia a less severe punishment will be applied to the convict.
A similar law was adopted on the territory of Crimea after its entry into the Russian Federation.
Earlier, referendums were held on the territory of the DPR, LPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions on joining Russia. On October 3, the State Duma ratified the treaties on the inclusion of these territories in the Russian Federation.
