A bill was introduced to the State Duma to change the burial procedure for SVO participants

Deputies of the State Assembly of Bashkiria contributed a draft law has been submitted to the State Duma proposing to change the burial procedure for military personnel who participated in the special operation in Ukraine. Bashkir parliamentarians propose allowing employees of internal affairs bodies and government officials to take part in the funeral ceremony of SVO soldiers.

According to deputies of the Bashkir parliament, it is not always possible to ensure the participation of representatives of the Russian Ministry of Defense or employees of military commissariats in the funeral ceremony. In this regard, the authors of the bill propose to introduce an amendment “providing for the possibility of participation in the organization of this procedure by representatives of public authorities, internal affairs bodies, national guard troops, the State Fire Service, institutions and bodies of the penal system, enforcement authorities, public and non-profit organizations.”

The authors justify the need to adopt the amendment by the fact that often employees of military registration and enlistment offices and employees of the Ministry of Defense cannot attend funerals due to their work commitments. In addition, the authors of the bill note that many settlements where military personnel are buried are located in remote areas, “where there are no military units or military registration and enlistment offices nearby.”
