A bill on Russia’s withdrawal of ratification of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty (CTBT) has been submitted to the State Duma. About it reported press service of the lower house of parliament.
Parliamentarians proposed in the document to repeal the article on ratification of the CTBT in the relevant federal law. The deputies also called for removing the reference to the treaty from the title of the law and bringing it to the wording “On the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty.”

Russia signed an agreement to accept the treaty on September 24, 1996. The document prohibits nuclear weapons tests and nuclear explosions for peaceful purposes. The CTBT has not yet entered into force, as it has not been ratified by the United States, Egypt, Israel, Iran and China and has not been signed by India, North Korea and Pakistan.
State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin previously stated that consideration of the bill in the first reading will take place in the State Duma on October 17. The second and third reading of the document may take place as early as October 18 and 19. According to him, the withdrawal of ratification of the treaty “corresponds to the national interests of our state and will be a mirror response of the United States.”
