A hermit who has lived in a Bashkir forest for 50 years voted in the elections
In Bashkiria, members of the territorial election commission of the Beloretsky district delivered a ballot box for the presidential elections in Russia to a 92-year-old hermit. The man has been living in the forest for almost half a century, the district election commission reported.
For about 50 years, Kinyagul Salimgareev has lived far from the bustle – “a cheerful grandfather, he chops wood himself, cleans snow himself.” His nephew visits him weekly and brings food and medicine. He also built a new house for his uncle.
The journey took about an hour. The elderly voter greeted the TEC members “with joy and gave them tea,” and then fulfilled his civic duty by voting in the presidential election.
The Central Election Commission of Bashkortostan reported that on the third day of voting in the Russian presidential elections, by 10 am, voter turnout in the region was 67.03% – 1,972,115 people voted.
