The head of the Ministry of Justice, Konstantin Chuychenko, said that he does not consider the law on foreign agents repressive. To prove his words, he said that 64 legal entities and individuals were excluded from the register of foreign agents for various reasons, including after “severing ties with Western beneficiaries.”
“I do not believe that the current law is inherently repressive. Our law is primarily aimed at prevention. Due to the existence of the institution of foreign agency in the Russian Federation, about 700 individuals and legal entities have been recognized as foreign agents. And about 64 legal entities and individuals have already been removed from this register for various reasons,” said Konstantin Chuychenko (quoted from RIA Novosti).
The law on the creation of a unified register of information on foreign agents and persons affiliated with them was adopted in Russia in March 2022. According to this law, managers and employees of foreign agent organizations should be considered affiliated persons. In December of the same year, new restrictions for foreign agents came into force, prohibiting them from working in the civil service, “critical information infrastructure” facilities and teaching for minors. At the same time, the Ministry of Justice began to publish personal data of foreign agents, including SNILS and INN. Last time registry replenished last week, October 20th.
