5,000-year-old wine jugs unearthed in Egypt

During excavations in the central part of Egypt, archaeologists discovered hundreds of jugs with the remains of wine. The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities reported the valuable find.

Archaeologists from Egypt, Germany and Austria worked at the tomb of Queen Merneit of the First Dynasty in the Umm El-Kaab area of ​​Abydos. While digging for antiquities, they discovered hundreds of closed jars that had never been opened before. “There were remains of wine inside,” the department said in a statement.

The Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities of Egypt, Mustafa Waziri, who assessed the sensational find, noted that the found jugs were preserved in good condition. He emphasized that the age of the wine in them is about 5,000 years.
