The Federal Service for Labor and Employment (Rostrud) dispelled five popular myths about maternity capital and the rules for its use.
Since 2007, families in which a second child was born began to receive maternity capital as a state support measure. Since 2020, such a right has also appeared in families in which the first child was born, recalled in Rostrud. The possibilities of using maternity capital are constantly expanding, for example, starting this year, it can be paid with education child in a private kindergarten or school. However, many myths have been created around maternity capital that have nothing to do with reality. Rostrud decided to dispel the most popular of them.
Myth 1. Partially spent maternity capital is not indexed.
In fact: the size of the balance of maternity capital is indexed annually, regardless of whether a part of it is spent or not.
Myth 2. You can spend maternity capital on improving housing conditions only after the child reaches the age of three.
In fact: you can use maternity capital funds to pay the down payment for the purchase of a home, repay a mortgage loan if the apartment was purchased with it, or a loan for building a house, you can immediately after the birth of a child and receiving maternity capital.
Myth 3. Only the mother of a child can receive maternity capital.
In fact: the father of the child can also apply for maternity capital if the mother has died, is deprived of parental rights, the adoption of the mother has been canceled, or if the father is the only adopter of the child.
Myth 4. You can use maternity capital for the education of the child for whom it was received.
In fact: you can pay for the education of any child with maternity capital, regardless of the order of birth or adoption.
Myth 5. You can use maternity capital funds up to a certain period or age of the child.
In fact: the period of use of maternity capital is not limited.
