FAZ: 33% of men in Germany admitted to accepting violence against women
The aid and development organization Plan International Germany conducted a study which found that 33% of men aged 18 to 35 in Germany consider it acceptable to use physical force in an argument with their partners. How informs German publication Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, 34% of those polled admitted that they had already been cruel to women in order to force them to show respect.
The survey also revealed that many men in Germany continue to play traditional roles. 52% of the men surveyed believe that their main task is to earn enough money so that their women can take care of the household. Every second young man does not want to start a relationship with a woman who has had many sexual partners.
The survey also showed that many men experience weakness and vulnerability when they show emotions. Nearly two-thirds of those surveyed (63%) said they sometimes feel sad, lonely, or isolated inside.
Carsten Kassner, an expert at the Federal Men’s Forum, was shocked by the results of the survey. He stated that there was an urgent need to change the attitude of men towards violence against women. Many men are ready to speak out for greater equality and against role clichés, but don’t know how to do it in practice. According to Kassner, the task of politicians is to change the framework conditions in order to create conditions for changing the attitude of men towards women. He cited the federal government’s paid leave arrangements for fathers after children are born as a positive step in that direction.
