Director of the Russian Children’s Clinical Hospital (RCCH) of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, Elena Petryaykina, said that 32 children from Syria were hospitalized at the RCCH. On March 10, Children’s Rights Commissioner Maria Lvova-Belova announced their return to Russia. They lived in a refugee camp in Syria.
“The condition of the admitted children is assessed as stable. Among those hospitalized are 12 girls and 20 boys. Doctors have already conducted an initial examination and prescribed a full diagnostic examination,” said Elena Petryaykina. Her words lead “News”.
According to Izvestia, each child is a Russian citizen and is under the personal care of Maria Lvova-Belova. On March 10, she reported that the children would later be handed over to their relatives living in Russia. On the same day, she reported that another group of children was planned to return from Syria; blood samples were taken from them for DNA tests to determine their relationship with Russian citizens.
In October 2023, 34 children with Russian citizenship were transported to Russia. In Syria they were in refugee camps in the Trans-Euphrates region. In Russia they were handed over to relatives. In March, 56 orphans who lived in refugee camps or shelters returned to Russia under a similar mechanism. The removal of children from Syria is being carried out as part of an agreement with the Kurdish side on the return of 200 children from Syria. Since 2011, the country has been in a civil war between government supporters and the armed opposition, including the Kurdish military alliance Syrian Democratic Forces.
