2.5 thousand people were evacuated from flooded Orsk – Kommersant

TASS, citing operational services, reports that almost 2.5 thousand residents of Orsk were evacuated due to the flood. Among them are 800 children. In total, 189 thousand people live in the city. Mostly the Old Town, which has a lot of private buildings, was flooded.

“According to the latest data, 2,493 people were evacuated in Orsk, including 797 children,” leads TASS the interlocutor’s words.

In total, almost 6.4 thousand people were evacuated in the Orenburg region due to the flood, including more than 1.7 thousand children. Operational services also told TASSthat in the Kurgan region, 690 people, including 100 children, were evacuated due to flooding. Earlier, the governor of the region, Vadim Shumkov, called for an urgent evacuation of the residents of Zverinogolovskoye – the water level there rose by 74 cm in two hours, to 735 cm.

In Orsk itself, there is a decrease in the water level in the Ural River by 35 cm. Now it is 928 cm. At the same time, the water arrives to the regional capital. The level of the Urals in Orenburg over the past 24 hours increased by 25 centimeters and rose to 897 cm (with a dangerous level of 93 cm). Local authorities predict the water will peak on April 10.

On April 5, due to heavy flooding on the Ural River in Orsk, an embankment dam broke. By the next morning, half of the Old City was flooded. According to the latest data, 10,185 residential buildings and 12,675 household plots were flooded in 25 municipalities. Since April 7, a state of emergency on a federal scale has been in effect in the Orenburg region.

Authorities of the Orenburg region expectthat the river flood will reach its peak on April 10. Previously to the region again flew out Head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia Alexander Kurenkov.
