According to the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA), an independent organization that investigates cases of corruption in tennis, former world number one in doubles, 16-time Grand Slam winner American Bob Bryan has been fined $10,000 and suspended for four months for advertising in social networks of the betting operator. The same decision was made in relation to his compatriot Mardy Fish, who rose to seventh place in the singles ranking of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP). They were both recently accredited to the Davis Cup Finals as Team USA coaches.
The period of disqualification of two specialists who pleaded guilty and assisted the investigation began on November 11. This punishment is imposed in accordance with the anti-corruption rules of tennis, which prohibit the so-called closed persons (those who are directly involved in the conduct of the competition) to directly or indirectly contribute to the work of bookmakers.
The final part of the Davis Cup, held last week in Malaga (Spain), ended with the victory of the Canadian team, which beat the Australians in the final. Team USA lost to Italy in the quarterfinals.
