100-year-old monument to Suvorov will be demolished in Izmail

The city council of Izmail, Odessa region, voted to move the monument to the Russian commander Alexander Suvorov from the central avenue to the museum, Ukrainian media report.
Reportedly, 27 deputies voted for the decision to move the memorial, including Mayor Andrei Abramchenko.
This monument is more than 100 years old; it has been standing in Izmail since 1945. It was created in memory of the capture by Suvorov of the Turkish fortress of Izmail, which existed in the 16th-19th centuries on the banks of the Danube in the territory of the modern city of Izmail.
The assault on Ishmael took place in 1790. Federal Law No. 32-FZ of March 13, 1995 “On the Days of Military Glory and Memorable Dates of Russia” established the day of military glory on December 24 – the Day of the capture of the Turkish fortress Izmail by Russian troops under the command of A. V. Suvorov.
