10% of residents returned to the Belgorod city of Shebekino after a decrease in the intensity of shelling

Governor of the Belgorod Region Vyacheslav Gladkov on his page in “In contact with” spoke about the restoration of the border town of Shebekino, which in early July was subjected to massive shelling from Ukraine. Residents began to return to it, temporarily leaving for safe places after the increase in the intensity of attacks. According to the authorities, more than 10% of the total population came to the settlement.

About 40 thousand people live in Shebekino, according to open data. By June 10 in it remained 2.7 thousand people. At that time, hundreds of shells fired from Ukraine fell daily in the urban district. in shelling were damaged more than 700 private and 113 apartment buildings. To date, the intensity of shelling has decreased: over the past 24 hours, two arrivals have been recorded in the district, and six more shells were fired at the international automobile checkpoint.

According to Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov, it is planned to complete the repair of windows and roofs by August 1. “If the situation continues to remain the same as it is now, I’m talking about the operational situation, about shelling, then starting Monday we will offer residents whose apartments and houses have not been destroyed to quietly return to their living quarters,” Mr. Gladkov said. He added that the flow of those wishing to receive assistance has decreased at the humanitarian aid points in Belgorod. By the beginning of next week there will be two of them, now four are working.
