Communist Party leader Gennady Zyuganov was awarded the Order of Merit for the Fatherland, III degree. He received it “for his great contribution to the development of parliamentarism, active legislative activity and many years of conscientious work,” Vedomosti learned.

Vedomosti has a copy of the document. The corresponding presidential decree was signed on April 28, 2023. It has not been published on the Kremlin website. Zyuganov was awarded the Order of Merit for the Fatherland, IV degree, in November 2019.

The fact of awarding the decree was confirmed to Vedomosti by the head of the press service of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, State Duma deputy Alexander Yushchenko. According to a Vedomosti source close to the party, the party did not plan to publish the decree.

This year, as Vedomosti’s interlocutor close to the presidential administration noted earlier, there were no strong contradictions between the Communist Party of the Russian Federation and the authorities.

The exception is the elections in Khakassia, in which a State Duma deputy, United Russia Sergei Sokol, was nominated against the incumbent communist governor Valentin Konovalov. However, this pre-election conflict has not yet been reflected at the federal level.
