The authorities of Zurich announced the launch of an experiment to legalize the sale and use of marijuana in the city, starting in July. A similar plan was developed over several years, and finally received the approval of the Swiss Ministry of Health.
As part of the experiment, which will last three and a half years, 2.1 thousand residents of Zurich will be able to legally purchase and consume products with different levels of tetrahydrocannabinol, the main active ingredient in marijuana.
The participants in the experiment will regularly report on their drinking habits, health status, etc., so that the Swiss Ministry of Health and researchers from the Psychiatric Clinic of the University of Zurich can analyze this data. Based on the results of the experiment, conclusions will be drawn on the impact of the legalization of marijuana on the health of people and the economy of the city, in order to determine whether it is worth legalizing marijuana in Switzerland as a whole.
