Deputy Zhurova: the ban on wearing St. George’s ribbons at the World Championships in judo is a provocation
The decision taken by the organizers of the World Judo Championship to ban fans from wearing St. George ribbons on their clothes is the result of provocative actions on the part of Ukraine. This statement was made by the deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Svetlana Zhurova.
“The organizers themselves would hardly have noticed the St. George ribbons. Ukraine will always monitor such things and provoke such situations in order to further achieve our isolation, ”said the Olympic champion.
She believes that such actions occur only on the part of Ukraine. Zhurova stressed that such “provocations” from the Ukrainians came even before the annexation of Crimea to Russia in 2014.
According to her, the organizers of various international competitions do not want athletes from the Russian Federation to take part in them, because they fear that if they are admitted, there will be such provocations not only from Ukraine. Zhurova stressed that in such situations, it is easier for the organizers to prevent Russian athletes.
Recently, a deputy of the Verkhovna Rada, Zhan Beleniuk, published on his social network page a photo with Russian fans at the World Judo Championships in Doha, who wore St. George ribbons on their clothes. After some time, the organizers of the tournament banned the wearing of St. George’s ribbons in the stands and took the fans out of the stands.
