Zenit chief scout Konstantin Shipulin explained why the club did not buy Julian Alvarez. Shipulin’s words are quoted by the Championship publication.
“He had certain compensation there. But no one knows for sure whether he would have gone. It is clear that it was difficult to call him a pure “nine”. And we were looking for a replacement for Azmun”,” explained the Zenit chief scout.
At the same time, Shipulin noted that, based on his basic characteristics, Alvarez could fit into the blue-white-blue team.
Let us remind you that in the summer transfer window of 2023, six players from other countries transferred to the St. Petersburg team: Mario Fernandez, Do Queiroz, Mantuan, Strahinja Erakovic, Wilson Isidore and Pedro, who will arrive in February 2024. Zenit also signed two Russian football players – Alexander Kovalenko and Denis Adamov.
