Zenit and Spartak will play in the same Russian Cup group

Tonight, on August 17, the draw for the group stage of the Russian Football Cup took place in the studio of the Match TV channel. Spartak Moscow and Zenit St. Petersburg were in Group B. CSKA Moscow were in Group D, Dynamo were in Group C.
According to results draw, the groups were divided as follows:
- Group A: Krasnodar, Lokomotiv, Pari Nizhny Novgorod, Khimki.
- Group B: Zenit, Krylya Sovetov, Spartak, Fakel.
- Group C: Dynamo, Akhmat, Rostov, Orenburg.
- Group D: Sochi, CSKA, Ural, Torpedo.
The Russian Cup will be held according to the Double Elimination system – the team is eliminated from the tournament after two defeats. The Cup will be held in two stages. The first stage will consist of the “RPL path” and the “regions path”. It will run from August to December. The second stage is the playoff stage. It will start in February 2023. The final match is scheduled for June 11.
As for games in groups, the teams will play each other “at home” and “away”. The clubs that take the first two places in the groups will get into the RPL playoffs. Teams from the third places will play in the playoffs of the path of the regions. Those who took the last places in the groups will complete the performance in the tournament.
