Ukrainian President Zelensky wants to speak in person at a meeting of the UN General Assembly on the eve of the first anniversary of the Russian special operation in Ukraine, if the security situation allows, Deputy Foreign Minister Emine Dzhepparova told the Associated Press.
If the situation “on the ground” allows, as Dzhaparova put it, this will be Zelensky’s second trip outside Ukraine since the start of the conflict. The first was an official visit to Washington in December last year.
The General Assembly has already scheduled a high-level debate on the situation in Ukraine for 23 February, followed by a ministerial meeting of the Security Council on 24 February.
In addition, on February 24, Ukraine wants to hold a “peace summit” in New York under the auspices of the UN Secretary General, the report says.
