Zelensky: there are no forces and weapons to attack on Russian territory as part of the counteroffensive
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky on Sunday at a joint press conference with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Berlin said that Ukraine has neither the intention nor sufficient weapons to attack the territory of the Russian Federation.
According to the Ukrainian leader, at a meeting with Scholz they discussed the situation on the battlefield.
“We are not attacking the territory of the Russian Federation,” Zelensky told reporters, answering the question whether he considers it possible, as part of a hypothetical counteroffensive, to occupy part of the territory of Russia to strengthen the negotiating position.
“We have neither the strength nor the time for this,” the President of Ukraine said.
At the same time, he added: “And we have no weapons left with which we could do this.”
According to him, Kyiv is still preparing a counteroffensive. He admitted that in case of failure, several more countries would consider the need for peace negotiations. “But we are almost ready for success,” he said.
Earlier, Zelensky met in Germany with President Frank-Walter Steinmeier at his Bellevue residence, and then went to Chancellor Scholz’s office to negotiate with him.
Before the arrival of Zelensky, the German government agreed on a package of military assistance to Kyiv for 2.7 billion euros.
