Pamfilova announced preparations for elections in new regions according to the schedule

Preparations for elections in Russia’s new regions are proceeding according to schedule despite “the most difficult conditions,” Ella Pamfilova, chairwoman of the Central Election Commission (CEC), said. She spoke about this during a working trip to the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions, informed Telegram channel of the CEC.

Pamfilova noted that territorial precinct commissions have already been formed in the new regions, and precinct commissions will soon be created. Premises for voting are equipped with the necessary equipment, the necessary communications are laid to them. In addition, preparations are being completed for the training of members of election commissions, which, according to her, will take place in several stages.

“The purpose of my visit is to see how additionally the CEC in my person can help, what kind of assistance it can provide – in training, in organizing work, in equipping polling stations,” Pamfilova said.

This year, the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions will take part in a single voting day on September 10. On this day, elections of heads of subjects of the Russian Federation, as well as deputies of local parliaments, will be held in 20 regions. Elections of deputies of representative bodies of municipalities and administrative centers will also be held in 12 regions.

In early May, Pavel Krasheninnikov, head of the State Duma Committee on State Construction, said that the legislation would provide for a special procedure for making decisions on scheduling elections in territories where martial law had been introduced. This is necessary to harmonize various legislative acts during elections in new regions, where the EaP regime has been in effect since October last year.

In 2024, presidential elections will be held in Russia. On January 20, Pamfilova said that the CEC had already begun preparations for them. After that, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov stressed that Vladimir Putin has not yet made any statements on this subject. In February the president declaredthat all elections will be held in strict accordance with the law.
