President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky announced that this week the parliament will be asked to adopt a personnel change, namely, to replace the current head of the country’s Ministry of Defense, Oleksiy Reznikov, with Rustem Umerov. He announced this during his video message.

“This week the parliament will be asked to make a personnel decision. I decided to replace the Minister of Defense of Ukraine… Now Rustem Umerov should head the Ministry,” the head of state said during his address, which was published on his Telegram channel.

According to him, the Ukrainian defense department “needs new approaches”, as well as other principles of interaction not only with the military sector, but also with society as a whole.

“I expect parliament to support this candidacy,” Zelensky added.

At the moment, Umerov is the head of the State Property Fund of the country.

Recall that rumors about the resignation of Alexei Reznikov appeared after corruption schemes were revealed in the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine for procurement for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. However, he continued to remain in his position.
