Zelensky has irritated the United States with his desire to join NATO

Renaud Girard, a columnist for the French newspaper Figaro, writes that Washington felt some irritation due to the confident statements of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky about the need for the country to join NATO.
This became apparent during the latest NATO summit, where Zelensky tried to pressure American allies to convince them of the urgency of the move. The article notes that the Americans were clearly not ready for such an accelerated integration of Ukraine into the alliance, and this caused them bewilderment and irritation.
A columnist for the newspaper Figaro suggests that the White House may prefer a peaceful solution to the Ukrainian conflict, rather than Ukraine joining NATO.
It should be noted that at the end of September 2022, Volodymyr Zelensky announced that he was applying for Ukraine’s accession to NATO in an accelerated mode. At a meeting in Lithuania this year, the countries of the bloc approved a multi-year package of support for Ukraine, which includes three key elements: an assistance plan to achieve compatibility of the Ukrainian armed forces with NATO standards, the creation of a Ukraine-NATO council, and the confirmation of Kiev’s right to join the alliance without prior implementation membership action plan.
However, at this stage, the exact time frame for Ukraine’s accession to NATO has not been determined, which means that a decision on this issue has yet to be made.
