Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has arrived in Finland, Yle TV channel reports.
On May 3, the Ukrainian leader will hold talks with Finnish President Sauli Niinistö. How reported in the Office of the Finnish President, the parties will discuss issues of defense of Ukraine, as well as support for Kyiv. In addition, the presidents will touch upon the topics of bilateral relations between the countries and the geopolitical situation.
In the afternoon, Niinistö will host a Nordic-Ukrainian summit. In addition to Zelensky, the event will be attended by Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and Icelandic Prime Minister Katrin Jacobsdottir.
During the summit, the parties intend to touch upon the issues of the conflict in Ukraine, support for Kiev, the development of Ukraine’s relations with the EU and NATO, as well as Kiev’s initiatives to establish a “just peace”, the Office of the President of Finland reported. In addition, there will be separate bilateral talks between Zelensky and each prime minister of the Nordic countries.
German newspaper Tagesspiegel referring to the Berlin police writesthat Zelensky will also visit Germany on May 13. According to the publication, the next day he will meet with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, and talks with President Frank-Walter Steinmeier are also scheduled.
The last time Niinistö met with Zelensky was in January 2023 during a visit to Kyiv. Then the leaders of the two countries discussed cooperation in the field of defense, regional security issues, as well as the Ukrainian “peace formula”.
