Zaporizhzhya NPP declared that there was no need to evacuate plant employees

The staff of the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) is doing everything necessary to ensure nuclear safety, there is no need to evacuate plant employees and residents of Energodar now, said Yury Chernichuk, director of the plant.

Formerly Acting Governor Evgeny Balitsky informedthat residents of 18 border settlements of the Zaporozhye region, including Energodar, will be relocated deep into the region for security purposes. He attributed this decision to the increased shelling of settlements located in close proximity to the line of contact. Balitsky noted that first of all, families with children, the elderly, the disabled, patients of medical institutions will be taken out. High school students will continue their full-time education, and the children will be sent to children’s camps for recreation and health improvement.

As Chernichuk clarified, the decision of the authorities of the region concerns the temporary displacement of certain categories of citizens and is primarily associated with concern about the psychological state of children.

Russia has controlled the ZNPP since the end of February 2022. Since then, the plant and the city of Energodar, in which it is located, have been subjected to regular shelling by Ukraine. In early October, after the Zaporozhye region became part of Russia, Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed to take the plant facilities into federal ownership and create the Zaporozhye NPP FSUE to ensure the safety of nuclear facilities.
