Zapad-2023 exercises will not be held – Kommersant

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that in 2023 the Zapad exercises would not be held. Previously, it was planned that this year the exercises would work out preparations for threats in connection with the expansion of NATO to the East.
“No, this year we have exercises in Ukraine,” Mr. Shoigu told reporters (quoted from “RIA News”).
In 2022, the exercises worked out the creation of groupings of troops to ensure regional security. More than 51,000 military personnel, including representatives of the armed forces of 14 foreign states, took part in them.
