Zakharova: France should explain why Macron wants to come to the BRICS summit

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that the French authorities should explain the desire of President Emmanuel Macron to personally attend the BRICS summit in South Africa.

On Sputnik radio, she noted that the Elysee Palace should explain: “Do they want to once again establish some kind of contact in order to show the activity of Paris, or is it some kind of Trojan horse.”

The diplomat noted that we are talking about the organization [БРИКС]which does not include France.

The day before, Opinion wrote that Macron asked South African President Cyril Ramaphosa to give him the opportunity to take part in the BRICS summit. South Africa has not yet given an official response on its readiness to admit other international leaders to the event.

BRICS unites Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. The 15th summit of the organization, which the leader of the Fifth Republic expressed his desire to attend, will be held in August in Johannesburg.
