Russian Ambassador announces Egypt’s application for BRICS membership

Egypt has applied to join the BRICS, Russian Ambassador to Cairo Georgy Borisenko said. transmits TASS.
“Egypt has applied to join the BRICS group because one of the initiatives that the BRICS are currently engaged in is the maximum transfer of trade to alternative currencies, whether it be national currencies or the creation of some kind of joint currency. Egypt is very interested in this,” he told the agency.
Now the BRICS includes Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
Earlier, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro following a meeting with his Brazilian counterpart Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva declaredthat the country would like to become part of the BRICS. He emphasized that this association is transforming into “a great magnet for those who want a different world and cooperation.” In turn, da Silva declared, which looks favorably on the possibility of Venezuela joining the BRICS. The Brazilian President added that such initiatives should be agreed with all participating countries.
