Zakharova: Great Britain wants to show “leadership in the fight against fakes” with the situation with Middleton
The UK plans to use information about the disappearance of Princess of Wales Kate Middleton, disseminated in the world media, to demonstrate some leadership in the fight against disinformation. This opinion was voiced by official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Maria Zakharov at a meeting of the Federation Council commission on information policy and interaction with the media on Thursday, March 21.
She noted that rumors about the disappearance of the princess had been gathering for months, and the tabloids wrote that she was “almost eaten.” Zakharova suggested that this information would be distributed to publications around the world, and then in Britain they would collect all the publications and present them as a disinformation campaign.
“They will again host an information conference on combating fakes, they won’t let us in, as they always haven’t, and they will say that they are the leaders in the fight against campaigns of defamation and disinformation,” said the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
She also suggested that the Welsh process itself would open this event.
Zakharova called on her colleagues, including those from the post-Soviet space, to “learn what can be made of history that is nothing.”
