Zakharova: the only way to the European Union is to curry favor in the field of Russophobia

Russophobia has become the main criterion in the decision to admit new countries to the European Union. This opinion expressed official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova in her Telegram channel.
Zakharova recalled the words of the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, who stated that all decisions on the admission of new countries to the EU will be made only on the basis of their merits.
“That is, the criteria have already been canceled. What remains is the “merit”. Now membership can only be earned. Obviously, the only option to do this is to curry favor in the field of Russophobia,” Zakharova concluded.
On October 6, Spiegel reported that the head of the European Council, Charles Michel accused von der Leyen exceeded his powers, citing the migration agreement with Tunisia as an example – the EU Council “stayed aside” from the decision-making. According to the publication, the EC reacted to Michel’s words with irritation.
