Zakharova: the meeting between Lavrov and Bayramov began with an apology from Baku for the death of Russian peacekeepers

Official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Maria Zakharova reportedthat in New York, where the session of the UN General Assembly is ongoing, a meeting was held between Sergei Lavrov and his Azerbaijani counterpart Jeyhun Bayramov.

The Russian diplomat noted that the negotiations between the two sides began with an apology from Baku for the death of Russian peacekeepers during the Azerbaijani military operation in Nagorno-Karabakh.

“The meeting of Sergei Lavrov with the head of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry at the UN began with the words of an apology from official Baku in connection with the death of Russian peacekeepers,” Zakharova wrote, attaching a photo from the meeting of the two delegations.

On Tuesday, September 19, Baku launched a military operation in Karabakh. During the activities carried out by the Azerbaijani army, a vehicle of the Russian peacekeeping contingent, which was returning from an observation post, came under fire. All military personnel in the vehicle were killed.
