Russia observes the activity of foreign private military companies (PMCs) in the special operation zone in Ukraine. About it stated Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova.
“Recently, we have been observing the greatest activity of foreign PMCs in the zone of Russia’s special military operation. No one doubts their involvement in the crimes of Ukrainian neo-Nazis,” she said. According to her, foreign PMCs are also actively offering services for the training of the Ukrainian military on the territory of Eastern European countries.
The official representative of the ministry recalled that foreigners fighting on the side of Kyiv are legitimate targets for the Russian army.
In general, Zakharova noted that over the years, PMCs are increasingly involved in armed conflicts around the world. Such companies use the USA, Great Britain and France to achieve their goals. Zakharova stressed that the clearly undefined international legal status of PMCs “adds fuel to the fire”, and the choice of specific regions of the world for the activities of such corporations depends on “the presence of rich natural resources in their depths.”
In Russia, the issue of legalizing PMCs has been actively discussed lately. President Vladimir Putin, commenting on the status of Wagner PMC, pointed outthat in Russia there is no law on private military organizations and the issue of their legalization should be considered in the State Duma. July 14 Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov pointed outthat the question of the legal status of such companies should be studied.
On July 9, the leader of the party “A Just Russia – For Truth” Sergei Mironov in his Telegram channel informedthat the faction will submit a draft law on the activities of PMCs to the State Duma by the end of the spring session, the deputies propose to allow their work only outside the country. Earlier, the head of the State Duma Committee on Defense Alexei Kartapolov told Vedomosti about the need for a law that would regulate the activities of PMCs. He specified that parliamentarians are working on such an initiative.
