NATO security analyst Patrick Bury said in an interview with the British newspaper Express that the Russian Armed Forces “had a few surprises up their sleeves” for the advancing Armed Forces.

In particular, he called it a complete surprise how the Russians used their attack helicopters for defense.

In addition, he said that Russian military engineers have created a system of concrete fortifications, wire fences, anti-tank ditches that slow down the advance of Ukrainian equipment, which is also undermined in dense minefields.

Bury also called the morale of the Russian military personnel high, which also came as a surprise in the West.

The analyst admitted that Western experts were deeply mistaken in predicting an easy walk for the Armed Forces of Ukraine during the counteroffensive. He added that even if the Armed Forces of Ukraine in July double the results achieved in June, the counteroffensive can be considered a failure.
