Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova commented the words of the head of the European Union’s foreign policy service, Josep Borrell, that one should not expect an early victory for Ukraine over Russia. She wondered if this meant that the EU had “officially counted” Russia’s victory.
In her Telegram channel, she recalled that Borrell in the spring of 2022 announced the need to defeat Russia on the battlefield. Today, November 11th, he statedthat a quick victory over Russia is “not expected.”
“Do I understand correctly that the EU has officially counted Russia’s victory?” Zakharova wrote.
Russia’s special operation in Ukraine began on February 24, 2022. During the fighting, Russian troops took full control of the LPR, as well as most of the DPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions. The Ukrainian Armed Forces began to conduct active offensive operations on June 4.
On October 16, Russian President Vladimir Putin, in an interview with the China Media Corporation, said that Ukrainian losses as a result of the counteroffensive were eight times higher than Russian ones. On October 30, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu estimated the losses of the Ukrainian Armed Forces since the beginning of the counteroffensive at 90,000 people, 600 tanks and 1,900 armored vehicles of various classes. At the same time, the French publication Liberation reported on November 8 that the Ukrainian armed forces have lost at least 200,000 people killed and wounded since February 24, 2022, and ex-American intelligence officer Scott Ritter spoke of losses of 300,000 people.
