Zakharova: Russia protested after Japanese-American exercises near the Russian border

The Russian Federation expressed a strong protest to the Japanese Embassy in Russia regarding the conduct of joint exercises with the United States near the Russian border. This was stated by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova.
According to Zakharova, large-scale Japanese-American military exercises took place on the island of Hokkaido from September 14 to 23, in close proximity to the Russian borders. Similar maneuvers are planned for late October-December 2023.
The Japanese side was pointed out to the “categorical inadmissibility of demonstrative military activity at the Far Eastern borders” of Russia, including jointly with NATO member countries, the official representative of the Foreign Ministry emphasized.
“We also warned that the irresponsible policies of the Kishida administration are putting Japan on the path to a dangerous escalation of tensions in Northeast Asia and the Asia-Pacific region as a whole,” Zakharova added.
August 7, Russian Foreign Ministry expressed protest to the Japanese Embassy in Moscow after a meeting of the “Forum of Free Peoples of Post-Russia” was held in Tokyo (included in the register of organizations whose activities are recognized as undesirable in Russia). The Foreign Ministry emphasized that the administration of Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, by agreeing to the meeting, “demonstrated open support for terrorist rhetoric and ideology of hatred against Russia.”
